Join the SRLP Medicaid Equality Initiative to support equal access to medical care for all people!
The Sylvia Rivera Law Project is a legal organization fighting for full legal equality and political voice for transgender, intersex, and gender non-conforming people.
"The SRLP Medicaid project is providing an essential service to some of the most vulnerable members of the transgender community. Supporting the project with both time and money allows me to fulfill my responsibility as a physician to not only care for my own patients but to help ensure everyone medical care as a human right.
As a transman, it is also gratifying to support a project that publicly affirms transgender care as both essential and scientifically valid medical care."

We invite you to join our Medicaid Equality Initiative. Making a donation today will help us raise the $45,000 needed for our work to end illegal discrimination against transgender people attempting to access Medicaid benefits this year. We need your help! These funds need to be raised by January 1, 2005. The exclusion of transgender health care from Medicaid coverage is causing a severe health crisis in our communities by contributing to HIV infection and violating basic notions of dignity and equality for all people. Your tax-deductible contribution allows us to:
- Provide vital assistance to individual Medicaid eligible clients who are being denied coverage of medically necessary transgender health care;
- Develop and file our precedent-setting lawsuit challenging New York State’s exclusion of “sex-reassignment related care” from Medicaid coverage;
- Build a national strategy for replicating this work in other states that are still excluding transgender health care from coverage by sharing our work with activists and medical providers across the country through our trainings, website, and public education materials, so others can join the struggle and advocate for equality.
